[NEW] App Rating functionality

Release status: RELEASED
Available from: 4.3.0 app versions

Introduction

We are aware that to get great app reviews you need to have a solid mobile app along a great customer support, optimal business model and always working charging infrastructure. Because we know it is hard to achieve everything at once, we prepared a functionality that will significantly help you improve your app ratings in your stores.

In-app rating functionality

The idea behind the “Show app rating pop-up” feature is simple:
🌟 “Show app rating to user when he/she is mostly satisfied with our service” 🌟

How to enable In-app rating functionality?

To enable this feature, go to Ocean’s “Instance settings” → “Mobile app UI” → “App store links” and enable the following setting:

Setting which enables in-app rating functionality

Before enabling the feature we recommend you to make iOS app update to the latest version and with it reset your app ratings in your stores if you did not perform very well in the past.

Google does not allow app rating reset, but Apple allows it. Check this guide to reset your ratings on Apple App Store prior release: https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/monitor-ratings-and-reviews/reset-an-app-summary-rating/

Logic behind the feature

To achieve this, we calculate a specific trigger which tells the app when to show the rate app pop-up. Under the following circumstances we assume that a user will be willing to give a 5* app rate:

  1. User must have at least one finished charging session in the last 3 months prior current ch. session

  2. Current session must be at least 20 min long
    (can be 20 min & 1 sec)

  3. User should not have existing authorization in the last 1 hour
(at least 1h should pass between sessions)

To avoid and limit unnecessary spamming of app rating pop-ups we added additional conditioning on mobile app:

Expected results

With one of our partners apps we already see stunning results. If you check the chart below, starting with March 25th when we enabled this feature, our partner’s app got at least one 5* rate per day (lightest blue color counts for 5* and darkest ones for 1*).

Results shown below show that users are satisfied with their apps in general but they never took time to rate it. Now everyone can give their users an option to rate their app with a simple one click feature and share their opinion.
